Culture conflict in writting

today one of my flat mate who was from Malaysia complained to me about her assignment. she believes that she was treated unfair in marking the assignment, because her friends who is an Australian got the same mark with her without a proper work. she showed me the detail marking paper which include all criteria about the assignment, she got 3 excellent and her friend only have one in language.
honestly speaking, i have never thought of comparing with local people in written assignment, that is too hash for me. however, my flat mate thought it is an racism which i do not believe it has happened in university. therefore, i m trying to find the real different between these 2 assignment.
to my surprising, i found the way of western people thinking is quite different with us. first, they are good at using examples, which we think too much examples will only appear in the primary school's paper. on the contrary, we prefer to use theoretical words to explain our ideas. secondly, western people like to really show off their own opinions and trying to persuade readers to follow them.however, we are more likely to focus on both sides of the phenomenal. trying to show a whole view to the readers and let them make up their own mind. therefore, most of Chinese articles do not make sense to the westerners because they are not really emphasis the idea and  give supports to it.the third part is the most interesting  part that i have found.it is about the sentence structure. compare with the native speakers, international students tend to use more complicated long sentences in their paper on purpose. i use the words "on purpose" is because it is sometimes becomes a sign to distinguish those papers.but without the weird long sentences, the paper done by local people are more smoothly in reading.
in conclusion, i think it is not just about the vocabulary and grammar, but a culture consciousness. western people like to prove their ideas by using sample words and examples. however, our culture tend to be moderate by saying confused deep theories.
