IELTs writing task2: Tourism

Question: International tourism is now more common than ever before some feel that this is a positive trend while others do not. What are your opinions on this.

Travelling abroad is not a strange phenomenon these days. Because of the lower transportation cost and various convenient travelling methods, international tourism is accepted by more and more families for their holidays. Most of the travellers believe it is a positive trend for both tourist countries and destination countries. However, others point out some problems brought by international tourism such as pollution. In my opinion, although both sides are affected in this process, the positive influences are more significant than the negative.

Firstly, international tourism has raised economy of destination countries. since the tourism industry has brought huge taxation income and generated a lot of job opportunities, many developing countries choose it as a key industry to rise their economy. Moreover, tourism, as a service industry, does not need either huge investment or high technology which means it is quite easy to access. Not only natural resource but also culture could be treated as a resource to attract tourist from other countries. For instance, Thailand, as a tropical country, not only has beautiful beaches but also for their cultural ceremonies and traditional dances.

Secondly, compared to the secondary industries such as mining, chemical industries which may lead an irrevocable damage, tourism is more environmentally friendly. Some people claim that tourist will generate more rubbish in the national reserves while they travel but I believe by using a systematic recycle system and some awareness, the pollution can be limited at a reasonable level.

Thirdly, international travel can widen the tourist horizon and give them a chance to understand other's culture. To some degree, it also increases the inter mixing of different cultures, which you could tell from the appearance and behaviours of the local people. Travelling to another country would give you a deeper understanding of the place which is hard to get from books and documentaries.

Overall, I believe travelling abroad will be a widely enjoyed activity in the next few years. Therefore, if you have not had an overseas experience, please do not hesitate to start a new journey on your next holiday.
